McShane's Through the Years

1921: James H. McShane II founded Northern Indiana Printing & Stationery Co. in Hammond, IN.

1928: NIPSCO became a Steelcase dealer, to offer clients a wide variety of office furniture and changed its name to NISCO, Northern Indiana Stationery Co.

1966: James H. McShane II retired, and his son, Joseph McShane, began his presidency.

1973: Joseph’s sons, James H. McShane III, J. Niall McShane, and Brian McShane joined.

1974: The company moved from downtown Hammond to its current Munster, IN, location.

1978: The company began selling Canon copiers in addition to office supplies & furniture.

1980: NISCO changed name to McShane’s, Inc.

1986: McShane’s added Minolta copiers and Panasonic typewriters to product offerings.

1990: Brian McShane named President, and J. Niall McShane named Vice President.

1992: Founder’s son retired.

1993: Canon color copiers joined the line of office equipment, and McShane’s sold Steelcase furniture division.

1995: After 66 years of competing side by side, McShane’s purchased Jacobsen’s.

1997: McShane’s expanded product offerings once again by becoming an authorized Muratec dealer after purchasing Muratec dealership from Tri-Electronics.

2000: McShane’s began the new millenium by buying competitor, Nassau & Thompson, gaining 100 more years of industry experience

2001: McShane's Business Technologies (MBT) formed to offer McShane's customers a wide variety of computer solutions.

2002: Canon authorized McShane’s to sell and service South Bend, Elkhart, and Warsaw marketplace in North Central Indiana.

2004: McShane’s joined TriMega, a nationwide buying group, to offer customers more competitive pricing.

2005: McShane’s purchased CDS Office Systems in Mishawaka, servicing over 300 accounts in North Central Indiana and representing Canon, Konica Minolta, and Muratec.

2006: McShane's celebrates 85 years in the industry and becomes an authorized dealer of KIP America products. Additionally, McShane's is honored to be selected again as an Elite Dealer for the second consecutive year.

McShane’s was built four generations ago in 1921 on a foundation of relationships and helping people with products and services that enhanced their lives. We still believe in this ideal and continually work to improve our methods to the best of our ability for our clients.

From our roots as a printing & stationery company in Hammond to our most recent expansion to the South Bend marketplace, McShane's has a rich history that blends family tradition with current technology. Over the last 85 years, McShane's has learned to provide clients with quality and value, as well as a wide variety of products to ensure the right fit with the right company.

What began as a small stationery shop has evolved into the largest independent office products dealer in Northern Indiana. With the introduction of Canon copiers in 1978, Minolta copiers in 1986, and color copiers in 1993, McShane's continues to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to digital document solutions.
